A child's foot on the pedal, riding a first bike

Pedale is for first-bike days.

In a wobbly moment the foot scrapes along the ground, so we reinforced the toe with a double layer of leather. The middle of the sole has a fine tread to grip the pedal. We used a hook-and-loop strap instead of laces, because laces can catch in the chain. The sole is still flexible, for running on once they’re off the bike.

Care

Brush off dust with a soft, dry brush; dab marks away with a slightly damp cloth.
If they get wet, stuff them with paper and let them dry at room temperature, away from radiators and direct sun.
Once a month, apply a thin coat of a colourless, natural leather cream.
Do not machine wash. Over time the leather darkens and carries the imprint of your child’s steps; this is natural.
