Measure in the second half of the day; feet lengthen slightly as the day goes on. Measure both feet and go by the longer one.
- Put the A4 sheet on the floor with its short edge against the wall.
- Have your child stand on the paper with their heel against the wall.
- Hold the phone directly above the foot, parallel to the floor, with all four corners of the paper in the frame.
- Take the photo. The paper’s known size acts as the scale, and the app works out the foot length.
- Repeat for the other foot; we go by the longer one.
Measuring by phone can be out by ±3 mm. If the result falls between two sizes, we recommend the larger one.
1/4 · Tap one end of the paper’s long edge.
- Download the template and print it at “actual size” or “100%”.
- Measure the 10 cm check line on the template with a ruler. If it isn’t 10 cm, the scale is wrong; print it again.
- Push the template up against the wall, with the heel touching the wall.
- Mark the line where the tip of the longest toe lands. The template shows you the size directly.
Printed correctly, this is the most reliable method.
Download the template (PDF) (opens in a new tab)- Put the paper on the floor with one edge against the wall.
- Have your child stand up, with their heel touching the wall.
- Holding the pencil upright, mark the tip of the longest toe. It isn’t always the big toe.
- Measure from the wall to the mark, to the nearest millimetre.
- Enter the length in the Size Finder.
If the pencil is tilted, the measurement comes out short. Keep it upright.
For example, 12.4. Enter the longer foot.
