My daughter is 16 months old. We measured twice in the evening, standing up, and once more in the morning: right foot 12.6 cm, left 12.4 cm. The Size Finder says 21, but a friend told me Salvia comes up a little big.
She’ll wear them with thick socks in winter. If we get a 21, will they be too loose? If we get a 20, will she outgrow them in two months?
Hello Merve. First of all, a 2 mm difference between the two feet is very common. We always go by the larger foot, so 12.6 cm.
The inside length of a shoe should be about 1.2 cm more than the length of the foot, so the toes can slide forward when walking and there is room to grow. 12.6 + 1.2 means you need at least 13.8 cm of inside length. A size 21 has an inside length of 14.0 cm and a size 20 has 13.3 cm; in a 20, the growing room drops to 0.7 cm and will run out within a few months.
You don’t need to add another half size for thick socks; if you measured in socks, they’re already accounted for. If you did, I’d say 21; if you didn’t, I’d still say 21.

We were in the same dilemma and went for 21. In the first week my thumb fitted easily at the toe; now, two months on, they’re just right. The Salvia last was neither big nor small for us.

Thank you so much. We measured in socks, so we’re getting the 21. If they don’t fit, there’s always the exchange.

Update: the 21s arrived and they fit. With the thumb test there’s about a finger’s width of room at the front, and the heel doesn’t slip. Thank you, everyone.
